The mood of the moment is body shaping, with an emphasis on the waist. Bold bras and bodies to be worn under jackets, a little wink at the 80's, are of the moment, on trend items. Body shaping, figure hugging and tailored seduction are demonstrated with delicate transparent materials and modern technology. Underwear as outerwear, baby doll dresses, light weight slips, stretch satin and lace, offer a flirty femininity and relaxed luxury. The corset is a big trend for autumn/winter. Victoria Beckham's designs rework the corset per se, and eliminate boning and rigid constriction, working as outerwear, in the style of a corset created in knitwear and various fabrics as bodices to mix n match to wear with skirts and trousers. There is a large focus on slips and shorts, rather than g -strings or thongs. Sophisticated comfort is key. Stockings and embellished tights make their mark with polka dots and floral embroidered patterns, showcasing playful wearable fashion accessories. Underwear designed for women, by women, as seen by Marloes Hoedeman's Dutch label Love Stories, with her range of luxurious and decoratively detailed fabrics with great prints to mix and match, far too beautiful to be hidden. Veering away from what ladies usually trust in ordinary black, white or nude coloured undies, the choice is fun as well as functional and comfortable, from soft triangle bralettes and underslips, to sexy boxers and floaty pyjamas.
Wacoal, the Japanese body-shaping underwear experts, have established a bolder distinction between shapewear and lingerie. Their shapewear range "Reshape", offers 30 designs, each with its own speciality, firming zones, and level of tightness. Their seamless Ultimate Side Smoother, an underwired t-shirt bra, means a solution to underarm bulge thanks to the stretch criss-cross side bands. Their design innovations offer trendy everyday solutions that solve daily bra dramas for every well-stocked woman's wardrobe. Material wise, breathable innovative fibres which withstand heat and moisture are a big thing. Lace and trims are everywhere, and we see more and more combinations of technical and innovative fabrics from the world of sports joining silk and lace. Subtle earthy toned colours of mud, and burgundy, are new entries on the colour theme of things, with that autumn winter factor. And there are many options to look forward to seeing out there to combine with anything and everything in your wardrobe.
